The art of being a woman

Miss Clara by Nobis are now seeking artists for the fifth edition of The Art of Being a Woman. In conjunction with International Women's Day on March 8, Miss Clara invites female artists from across the country to participate in an open exhibition. Anyone who identifies as a woman can apply to exhibit, regardless of age, amateur or professional status.

The exhibition will be held at Miss Clara by Nobis, starting from March 8, and will run for a month. All works will be available for purchase. During the month of March, Miss Clara will also be donating 20% of the revenue from the accommodation package "Kvinna till Kvinna," as well as a portion of the proceeds from selected dishes at Restaurant Ateneum, to the charity organization Kvinna till Kvinna. The organization works towards a world free from men's violence against women, and with 100 partner organizations on-site in 20 countries, Kvinna till Kvinna is one of the world's leading women's rights organizations.

The building that currently houses Miss Clara by Nobis was originally built as the Ateneum girls' school in 1910. We have taken our name from the school's beloved, progressive, and radical headmistress, Clara Strömberg. With the exhibition The Art of Being a Woman, we aim to create an open space featuring works by women, allowing each to tell her story through art.

The outer and inner labia are both strongly erogenous zones. The outer labia, the labia majora, are made up of fatty tissue, smooth muscle and corpus callosum tissue. Their function is to protect the inner labia and vagina against abrasion and impact. The outer labia are rich in nerve endings and sweat and sebaceous glands. About the artwork

My painting depicts a woman grasping her body with confidence and strength. It reflects the double standards women face – we are told to love ourselves, but not too much, to be natural yet perfect. The work challenges these norms and celebrates a body that is unapologetically its own.

About the artist

I was born in 1991 and work as an artist and illustrator in Malmö. When I paint, I try to find an inner calm that I hope is reflected in the finished work. At the same time, I welcome a sense of ambivalence – I want my paintings to ask questions rather than provide clear answers.

About the artwork

This artwork was created when I was studying visual culture at Högskolan i Gävle where concepts like "framed" and the "male gaze" appeared in literature. It's about how we women in advertising and social media are often cropped and framed to limit and please the male gaze. The painting is created in oil on canvas and consists of two canvases.

About the artist

I usually choose oil painting as my means of expression where the person is in focus and more specifically the person's emotional state. I live in Gävle and I have had separate and group exhibitions and participated in juried exhibitions. I have studied art both practically and theoretically since 2002.

Kamilla Winther

Price: 3000 kr

Contact: wintherskamilla@gmail.com

About the artwork

This piece is a tribute to the female body, to the beginning of life, to strength and vulnerability in the same form. Through centuries, the anatomy of women has been silenced, censored, and shamed, but at the same time, it has been a place for creation, pleasure, and the origin of life. Through its provocative aesthetics, the piece combines beauty with a challenging message.

About the artist

I have always explored the female body in my art, mainly through painting, but recently found a new expression in ceramics. I am drawn to the raw and tactile, where body and clay merge. My art is about challenging norms and allowing femininity to take up space, unapologetically.

Contact: ebba.hedenblad@gmail.com

About the artwork

Layers is an abstract oil painting where different layers of color, form and structure depict the power of emotion in the body and its connection to the outside world. Throughout history, women's emotions have been interpreted as intuition and care, but also as irrationality and neuroticism. The piece explores how emotions are stored, held back, and how the energy of emotion relates to the body and its surroundings.

About the artist

I am a digital designer and artist exploring identity, memories, and the emotional interplay between darkness and light. I paint in oil primarily, both abstract and figurative art.

No, but honestly, I'm done proving myself

Vira Kiktso

About the artwork

My artwork “No, but honestly, I’m done proving myself” reflects the exhaustion and frustration I feel as a woman under society’s constant demands to explain, defend, and prove my worth. The text is an act of liberation and a reminder of the importance of setting boundaries and valuing myself without external validation. It is a call for freedom from performance pressures and a celebration of self-acceptance.

About the artist

I am an illustrator, creator, artist, mother, woman, and an ordinary person with thoughts and feelings. Art is my way of expressing myself and exploring the world around me. Reflection, curiosity, and a love for detail shape everything I create, and I enjoy working intuitively, allowing each piece to find its own spontaneous order.
